Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth’s national dance house, has a special treat in store for young children this November with two magical and unique interactive performances to inspire and delight; Underneath the Floorboards by BalletLORENT and Innocence by Fleur Darkin.

With the belief that children are never too young to experience dance; the performances will call on them to be part of the process, giving them the freedom and confidence to explore dance and music. This will also create a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to watch their children in action.

Perfect for children under seven years old, the experiences will be fun and entertaining, introducing the world of dance and performance to younger audiences.

Underneath the Floorboards – A balletLORENT and Northern Stage co-production for under 5s

Join John on a magical journey Underneath the Floorboards in this exciting, interactive performance for the under fives.

Discover a strange and wonderful world through the bottomless box, as doe-eyed Fawn; blue bundle of fluff Guffy and punky Mimic lead John on a delightfully starlit journey home.

BalletLORENT is one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary dance companies, with a reputation for artistic excellence. Underneath the Floorboards, their newest children’s work, premiered to much acclaim in January 2011, with sell out performances in Newcastle and Gateshead.

Brimming with original songs, colourful costumes and beautiful movement, this captivating dance adventure will allow children to freely interact with the performers and the storyline. Pavilion Dance’s theatre space will be kitted out with a soft floor, cushions and a seated area, creating a fun and entertaining environment for children and adults alike.

BalletLORENT is an established contemporary dance company based in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was established in 1993, by Artistic Director, Liv Lorent, upon graduating from the Laban Centre, London. In its practice it challenges and develops new forms in the dance itself, the working relationship between choreographer, dancers and designers and in its exploration of innovative ways of interacting with its audiences. The essence of balletLORENT lies in performances that feed the imagination, thrill the senses and transport audiences through the power of dance.

Fleur Darkin Company  is a production company specialising in dance and the body. Jerwood-nominated choreographer Fleur Darkin formed the company in 2003. The company is led by her inquiry into dancing and being. Fleur Darkin Company is dedicated to creating a space in culture which is not economically or politically indebted to compromise or petty realism, a space that does not reproduce dominant forms, but creates dance that is led by and celebrates the boldest act: imagination.

Pavilion Dance is Bournemouth’s national dance house and a centre of excellence for dance locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. People of all ages and abilities can take part in over 40 dance classes per week, workshops and watch world-class performances by UK and international artists. Professional dancers can rehearse and create new work, and the unique spaces can be used by schools and groups wanting to develop their talents. The dance centre has a welcoming foyer, two light and spacious studios and a stunning 200-seat auditorium with cutting-edge technology.
