From Strictly Come Dancing to Dirty Dancing; from Footloose to Flashdance, dance has never been more popular. Just last month, streetdancer George Sampson won Britain’s Got Talent, with another dance act, Signature as runners-up. Now it’s the chance of everyone in the South West to show off their favourite dance moves. As part of Big Dance week, on Sunday 6 July there will be professional dancers on the streets of Bournemouth, Chippenham, Christchurch, Devizes and Swindon asking people “What’s Your Dance?” and encouraging them to dance for up to 5 minutes. 5-6-7-8 is both the date of the event (5 minutes on 6/7/08) and also the traditional count-in to dance routines. There will be prizes of Big Dance T-Shirts and Big Dance Bags for the first 20 people who take part in Bournemouth, Chippenham, Christchurch & Devizes. 5-6-7-8 is the perfect way to get people dancing, whether they are in one of the featured towns, or just out and about locally or even at home. People are also encouraged to film their dances and put them on YouTube.
