A world class dance centre is under construction.

From autumn 2010 you’ll be able to take part in classes in different dance styles, watch the best regional, national and international dance companies and create and take part in dance performances inside and out.

The Pavilion’s Ocean Room is being converted to house light and airy studios and a fully equipped 200-seat theatre. There’ll also be attractive outdoor performance spaces.

The centre, run in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council, will be operated by Dance South West.

Opportunities

Pavilion Dance - Looking for Dance Teachers

Opening in September 2010, Pavilion Dance will be a centre of excellence, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to watch, make and take part in dance in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas.

From mid April we will be starting a series of daily classes in the Pavilion Ballroom for: professional dance artists, children under 5 with their parents/carers, the over 50s and adults with physical disabilities and learning difficulties.

We’d like to hear from people who’d be interested in running a weekly class(es) for one of these four groups in any style of dance. Please bear in mind that the ethos of Pavilion Dance is to “do dance differently”, offering something new rather than replicating classes that already exist elsewhere in and around Bournemouth.

We’d like to see a CV, a couple of paragraphs about the class(es) you’d like to run and a short statement on why you think your proposed dance class(es) would work at Pavilion Dance by Monday 15th March, please.

Be passionate, creative and challenge perceptions!

For more information or an informal chat call Ian Abbott, Participation Programme Manager, Pavilion Dance on 01202 554131 or ian.abbott@dancesouthwest.org.uk

Lights, camera... dance!

Twenty local dancers aged 19 – 25 enjoyed free training in ‘Dance for Camera’, a discipline that merges dance and film aesthetics for 3 days from 27th February to 1st March.

The training took place on the Media Bus, an innovative state of the art digital media facility on board a high-tech bus, which was based at Bournemouth and Poole College.  Dancers worked in pairs to create either a short dance film or a show reel of their existing work.

L, an established dance artist and specialist in dance for camera worked alongside trainers from the Media Bus to teach participants how to shoot and frame dance for camera and how to complete the editing process including reviewing, cutting, juggling and polishing footage.

The training was organised by Pavilion Dance in partnership with the Media Bus and is just one of many projects leading up to the opening in September 2010 of the eagerly awaited dance centre, which is currently under construction at the Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth.
