Pavilion Dance encourages Inquiring Minds
Fourteen aspiring young dancers/ future choreographers and their dance teachers came together for three days creative exploration at Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth during October half term.
This unique project, set in the inspiring surrounds of the newly opened regional centre for dance, is designed to encourage new ways of thinking and fresh perspectives from which to approach the choreographic process.
During the retreat, participants (who came from as far afield as Cornwall, Bristol, Somerset and Bournemouth), took part in practical activity and provocation from some of the country’s leading creative professionals. Each day focussed on a different theme: risk, creativity and leadership, and sessions covered a range of subjects including lighting design, music production, marketing, dance for film and live art.
The residential culminated in each young person making a 1 minute piece on their supporting adult. The pieces made use of the exciting new space at Pavilion Dance, the beach, the gardens, the studios (and in one instance, the October sea!).
Now back in their respective home environments, each choreographer will develop a longer piece to be performed at a regional showcase at Pavilion Dance in March 2011.

Are you a budding choreographer?
Would you like to develop your skills, get one-to-one mentoring from a professional choreographer, attend a top-class residential programme and see your work performed on stage at the Royal Opera House?
YDE Young Creatives does just that.
Designed for 16-19* year olds, the programme aims to give young choreographers all the skills needed to develop high quality dance.
Working in partnership with the Royal Opera House, the Royal Ballet School and professional choreographers, YDE Young Creatives offers a high quality dance experience with two of the country’s prestigious dance organisations.
The programme includes a Skills Boosting Weekend, three mentoring sessions spread over 15 weeks, and a four-day residency during which participants will work to produce and perfect their dance piece through workshops and classes.
The project culminates in a presentation of YDE Young Creatives' work at the Royal Opera House with the young choreographers and their dancers showcasing their pieces on stage on 4th May 2012.
The application form is available online at www.yde.org.uk/ydeyoungcreatives and should be returned to Youth Dance England by Friday 4th November 2011.
